Al termine del corso gli studenti sapranno riconoscere e valorizzare le specie chiave e i principali habitat marini, con particolare riferimento a quelli interessati dalle attività di pesca, sia a livello internazionale, Mediterraneo e della sotto-regione adriatica.
L’insegnamento permetterà agli studenti di acquisire competenze e nozioni sulle specie target e gli habitat interessati dalle attività di pesca, gli ecosistemi vulnerabili e gli habitat essenziali, le principali direttive che interessano la protezione degli habitat e i regolamenti che definiscono la pianificazione dello spazio marittimo. Il corso approfondirà anche tematiche relative agli impatti della pesca sugli ecosistemi e alle principali misure di protezione degli habitat.
Capacità di applicare conoscenze e comprensione.
Lo studente acquisirà le conoscenze necessarie al riconoscimento dei principali taxa marini degli habitat interessati dalle attività di pesca in Mediterraneo. Dovrà avere capacità di collegamento tra argomenti e comprendere l’importanza dell’integrità degli habitat per la gestione sostenibile a lungo termine delle risorse naturali, e le conseguenze delle attività di pesca su beni e servizi ecosistemici marini anche alla luce dei rapidi cambiamenti in atto legati alla crisi climatica.
Competenze trasversali.
Applicazioni pratiche, confronti, discussioni e la possibilità di interagire con pescatori professionisti permetteranno agli studenti di sviluppare una adeguata visione sulla complessità delle tematiche trattate, fornendo loro le competenze per integrare la sostenibilità ambientale alla sostenibilità economica e sociale necessarie per una gestione innovativa e efficace delle risorse marine.
Knowledge and Understanding.
At the end of the course, students will know how to recognise and value key species and marine habitats, with particular reference to those affected by fishing activities, both at international, Mediterranean and Adriatic sub-regional level.
The course enables students to acquire skills and knowledge on target species and habitats affected by fishing activities, vulnerable ecosystems and essential habitats, the main directives affecting habitat protection and regulations defining maritime spatial planning. The course will also explore issues related to the impacts of fishing on ecosystems and protection measures.
Capacity to apply Knowledge and Understanding.
The student will acquire the necessary knowledge to recognise the main taxa and habitats of Mediterranean fisheries. He/she will have the ability to link topics and to understand the importance of habitat integrity for the long-term sustainable management of natural resources, and the consequences of fishing activities on ecosystem goods and services produced by different habitats also in the light of the rapid changes taking place linked to the climate crisis.
Transversal Skills.
Practical applications, comparisons, discussions and the opportunity to interact with professional fishermen will enable students to develop an adequate insight into the complexity of the issues addressed, providing them with the skills to integrate environmental sustainability with economic and social sustainability necessary for innovative and effective management of marine resources.

L'esame consiste in una prova scritta (test/questionario aperto) e in un colloquio riguardante la parte pratica e a quella teorica. Allo studente saranno proposti alcuni campioni e/o fotografie delle specie oggetto del corso e dovrà dimostrare di essere in grado di applicare le conoscenze acquisite per identificarne il taxon di appartenenza e inquadrare le specie all’interno di un quadro di tutela e prelievo sostenibile. Durante lo svolgimento delle lezioni è anche prevista la possibilità per gli studenti di presentare un lavoro di approfondimento effettuato anche in gruppo (presentazione power point) su uno degli argomenti trattati nel corso e concordato con il docente, che contribuirà alla valutazione finale dello studente in sede di esame orale.
Criteri di valutazione dell'apprendimento.
Durante la prova scritta, viene valutata la capacità dello studente di conoscere i diversi habitat marini, la loro distribuzione e i principali strumenti per la loro protezione, nonché i principi della pianificazione dello spazio marittimo. Durante la prova orale, viene valutata la capacità dello studente di riconoscere i taxa marini approfonditi durante il corso e la comprensione dei criteri e delle norme alla base delle strategie di protezione della biodiversità.
Criteri di misurazione dell'apprendimento.
Il voto finale è attribuito in trentesimi. L’esame si intende superato quando il voto è maggiore o uguale a 18. È prevista l’assegnazione del massimo dei voti con lode (30 e lode).
Criteri di attribuzione del voto finale.
Il voto finale viene attribuito valutando la prova orale alla luce anche dei risultati della prova scritta. La lode viene attribuita qualora lo studente abbia dimostrato piena padronanza della materia.
Learning Evaluation Methods.
The examination consists of a written test (open test/questionnaire) and an interview covering the practical and theoretical parts. The student will be offered some specimens and/or photographs of the species covered by the course and will have to demonstrate that he/she is able to apply the knowledge acquired to identify the taxon to which they belong and to place the species within a framework of protection and sustainable harvesting. During the course of the lectures, students will also have the opportunity to present in-depth work, also carried out in groups (power point presentation), on one of the topics covered in the course and agreed with the lecturer, which will contribute to the student's final assessment during the oral examination.
Learning Evaluation Criteria.
During the written examination, the student's ability to know the different marine habitats, their distribution and the main tools for their protection, as well as the principles of maritime spatial planning is assessed. During the oral examination, the student's ability to recognise the marine taxa explored during the course and his or her understanding of the criteria and rules underlying biodiversity protection strategies is assessed.
Learning Measurement Criteria.
The final grade is awarded in thirtieths. The examination is considered passed when the grade is greater than or equal to 18. The highest mark with honours (30 cum laude) is awarded.
Final Mark Allocation Criteria.
The final grade is awarded by assessing the oral test in the light also of the results of the written test. Honours are awarded if the student has demonstrated full mastery of the subject.
