The teaching will give the students an understanding of the dental hygiene in the healthy person, and regarding the main and more frequent internal diseases. Furthermore it aims to provide a thorough knowledge of the chemical characteristics of the main constituents of food, their influence on food properties and their reactivity and transformation during technological processes which foods are subjected to.
The student will have to acquire the following skills: knowing how to recognize and manage the major issues of dental hygiene in healthy subjects and in major diseases of internal medicine. They will have to understand the biological phenomena at the fundamental molecular level for a healthy diet.
The course aims to develop the student's ability to make an appropriate clinical observation, to obtain medical history information and make an initial framework on dental hygiene in the healthy patient and in those with major diseases. The teaching will be aimed at identifying the most frequent pathologies in everyday clinical practice, developing the students’ ability to promote and evaluate collaborative welfare projects for people with complex diseases.

The learning assessment is composed of a written test, consisting of thirty theoretical nature questions (15 related to the Dental Hygiene Sciences and 15 others related to the part of Food Science), including those in class and contained in the materials provided to the students. In case of failure of one of the subjects, the student will repeat both tests. The exam test has a duration of 2 hour.
Propriety and completeness of the answers to the questions in the written test.
For each question correctly answered, not answered or not correctly answered is assigned a score of 1, 0 and 0, respectively. To pass the exam the student must correctly answer at least 18 questions (9 inherent to part of Science of Dental Hygiene and 9 others inherent to the part of Food Science).
The final mark is attributed by the arithmetic mean, rounded up to whole, of the sum of the scores obtained in the two parts, as long as they are both sufficient. Otherwise the test is "insufficient". The overall pass mark for the exam is 18 points. The laud is attributed to the student who got a score equal to 30. The final mark is determined after a confrontation between members of the exam Committee jointly evaluating the results of the written test.
