Ability to read the context of intervention and ability to coherence between the proposed project and location. Knowledge of the main building technologies. Capacity of representation of the proposed project ideas.

The course will be characterized by a multitude of actions, mainly frontal lessons and exercises, and a series of parallel and organic activities on selected topics for the academic year that will be held in conferences, study trips, guest lectures and site visits. The course is complemented by a laboratory where the theoretical questions addressed in the course are applied to a project developed in synergy with the other disciplines of the project. The course is conceived with the following time schedule: Lectures - 50 hours; Exercises - 40 hours.

The class allows the students to enhance in depth the architectural composition techniques already obteined in the same disciplinary sector previous years classes; those aspect are teached at multiple scales of project, and are completed by a constant integration with structural and technical aspect of the design process, in order to develop knowledge and awareness of the hybrid and multidisciplinary character of the engeneer-architect educational path. The course develops a detailed study of a coherent set of buildings, both historic and new, and explore possible different building types with the study of its relationship spaces in the broader urban context and landscape.

In order to deal with the project themes assigned, the teaching gives to the student the skills to elaborate architectural and technical solutions that understand and interpret both the procedures of the architectural composition and the theoretical implications connected to the contemporary issues. The student will have to correctly understand the context, as proposed and already understood in the previous classes, prooving to have skills to motivate its own project choises; at the same time he will have to verify different possible answer after analyzing a series of requests, duties and restrictions. The proposed project environment will consist in the application of the acquired skills in a project of a selected city area architectural and urban regeneration.

The acquired skills will be prooved and verified in class exercise and laboratory and workshop activities. The test of these multidisciplinary skills take place with a oral exam that goes through the review and discussion of the student project choises. The proposed project will have to express multiple design characters and features at the urban scale, and at the same time will have to deal with the proper study of the technolocial aspects at the different project scales. This project steps will contribut to improve both the autonoumous capacity of judgment and the ability in oral communication and also the attitude to find solution to a given problem.

The first reasoning that the course proposes is the cogent necessity of sustainability tout court, which in spatial terms, both urban and architectural, means not so much to build less, but to rebuild, reusing what exists, from the urban fabric to the enormous quantity of volume realized over time that, in some cases, is in a state of degradation, and in others it is awaiting redeployment. The second order of interest will be related to the ways in which to face today the relationship between the new and the heritage, also and above all in relation to the events and the recent dynamics imposed by the earthquake that struck the Marche in 2016. The correct respect for the history, for the role and meanings of the architecture of the past, our existing one is now above all oriented towards the great amount of architecture that produced the second half of the twentieth century, whose character, although not without themes and meaning, can and must stimulate new paths and approaches to be identified and experimented. Other possibilities
of reflection are to be found within the role of increasingly central technical issues, both constructive and relating to energy issues, multiplied with respect to the past, and which could convey new ways of interpreting the physical relationship between new and seniority. Even the recent economic crisis, beyond the interventions financed by large capitals, public and private, suggests a new way of intervening, and the economies of scale, which until recently suggested demolition and reconstruction with respect to regeneration, are reviewed today with new parameters, stimulating recovery and expansion operations; all these themes, on which the course proposes recomposition experiments.
