Conoscenze di base in biologia e genetica, fisica e chimica.
Basic knowledge in biology and genetics, physics and chemistry.
The course is divided into 3 distinct modules (biochemistry, physiology and pharmacological basis of the therapy), which will be carried out in a consequential manner, in order to provide the basis for a correct understanding of the contents of each module. Classroom lessons will be held by focusing on the topics covered by the program. Each topic will be illustrated in a complete and detailed manner. The teaching material used during the lectures will be accessible on the moodle platform.
Students, through the support of the recommended texts and/or the consultation of scientific literature, are able to critically learn
advanced topics concerning the problems connected with the development, use and control of chemistry in the medical field. They are also invited to know the physiological mechanisms and their integration into all the physiological functions of the body. These notions are fundamental to properly approachi the study of pharmacology, with particular reference to drug-receptor interactions, at the basis of the pharmacodynamics, and therefore of the mechanism of action of drugs. They are also fundamental to understand the genetic-molecular characteristics of the individual and how they influence their diseases susceptibility and response to therapies. Students are able to learn the main bioethical issues related to preclinical and clinical drug testing.
Students will be able to recognize and name inorganic and organic molecules or indicate their chemical structure and to use the acquired knowledge to deduce the reactivity and behavior of biological molecules. Knowledge of physiological mechanisms serves as a basis for the ability to understand and define the complex integration between functional systems. Both of these topics are the basis for understanding the mechanism of action of drugs.
Based on this knowledge, the student must be able to understand how the alteration of a physiological mechanism can generate clinically evident signs and symptoms. The course also provides the basis for a pharmacological approach.

Oral examination.
The test concerns the program of the three modules relating to the integrated course. For each module, the evaluation is expressed out of thirty.
Demonstration of adequate knowledge of the topic and clarity of presentation. The final grade is expressed out of thirty. The exam is passed when the final grade is higher than 18. The maximum grade with honors corresponds to 30 cum laude.
The vote is discussed and agreed between the members of the commission. The final grade correponds to the arithmetic mean of the evaluation
(out of thirty) obtained in each module, keeping in mind that none of the three marks must be less than 18/30. If the student has not achieved a score of at least 18/30 in one or two of the three teaching modules, the test will be considered "not passed" for all programs. Honors are awarded if the student has achieved full marks in all the teaching modules and the teachers agree that he/she has an execellent knowledge of all the subjects.
