Introduzione al metodo scientifico, indagine esaustiva e campionaria, errore casuale e sistematico. Statistica descrittiva, distribuzione di frequenza, misure di sintesi dei dati, loro rappresentazione mediante tabelle e grafici. Cenni sulla teoria della probabilità. Significato di evento e di probabilità. Principi fondamentali del calcolo delle probabilità. Il teorema di Bayes e sue applicazioni in campo biomedico. Distribuzioni di probabilità, la distribuzione normale. Principi di inferenza statistica. Popolazione, campione e distribuzioni campionarie. Stima dei parametri di una popolazione: stima puntuale e stima intervallare. Intervallo di confidenza per una proporzione, intervallo di confidenza per la media aritmetica, intervallo di confidenza per la differenza tra due medie aritmetiche. Il test statistico d'ipotesi, test per il confronto di due medie per campioni indipendenti e per campioni dipendenti, il test chi-quadrato per il confronto di due proporzioni. Livello di significatività e potenza del test statistico. Tutti gli argomenti sono trattati nelle lezioni teoriche e la loro applicazione pratica per l'analisi dei dati è presentata nelle lezioni in e-learning con l’ausilio del programma statistico R.
Introduction to the scientific method, population and sample analysis, causal and systematic error. Descriptive statistic, distribution of frequency, summary statistics of data and their representation via figures and tables. Hints of probability theory. Meaning of event and probability. Fundamentals of probability calculus. Bayes' Theorem and its application in biomedical field. Probability distribution, Normal distribution. Principles of statistical inference. Population, sample and sample distributions. Estimation of population parameters: point and interval estimation of proportion, mean and difference between two means. Theory of Hypothesis test, hypothesis test for comparison of two means for dependent and independent samples. Chi-square test for comparisons of two proportions. Significance and Power level of hypothesis test.
All arguments are explained in theoretical lessons. The practical application are delivered in e-learning mode by using the R statistical program.
