Si presuppone la conoscenza della teoria microeconomica di base, oltre a quella dell'algebra e del calcolo infinitesimale. "Di base" è
inteso come "livello Triennale" delle lauree ad indirizzo economico. Agli studenti in possesso di una laurea in altre discipline si consiglia vivamente di studiare e/o rivedere queste conoscenze fondamentali con tempestività, prima dell'inizio del corso.
Knowledge of basic microeconomic theory, beside that of basic algebra and calculus, are assumed. Basic is
meant as "Bachelor level" of Economics-oriented degrees. Students having Bachelors of other disciplines are strongly advised to study and/or revise these knowledge fundamentals early on, before the course start.
Il corso è organizzato in 22 lezioni frontali caratterizzate sia da contenuti teorici che applicati. Per applicare le conoscenze teoriche, verranno presentati in classe esercizi e casi di studio. Potrebbero essere offerti ulteriori corsi di formazione e seminari. Verrà utilizzato il metodo PBL, aperto al contributo diretto (lavori individuali e di gruppo) degli studenti. Lezioni specifiche riguarderanno la formazione delle capacità analitiche e di ricerca. La frequenza non è obbligatoria, ma è fortemente consigliata; come nella maggior parte dei corsi di economia e quantitativi, può essere utile per ottenere una performance valutativa superiore
The course is organised in 22 frontal lessons featuring both theoretical and applied content. To apply the theoretical knowledge, exercises and case studies will be presented in class. Additional training sessions and seminars may be offered. The PBL method will be used, and it will be open to the direct contributions (individual and group works) of students. Specific lessons will address training of analytical and research skills. Attendance is not compulsory, but is strongly suggested; as in most economics and quantitative courses, it may be useful for achieving a superior evaluation performance
Al termine del corso, gli studenti avranno una conoscenza approfondita dei concetti teorici per analizzare, dal punto di vista economico, le principali questioni riguardanti l'ambiente, le risorse naturali e lo “sviluppo sostenibile” – compreso i dibattiti attuali sulle transizioni energetiche e digitali, sui cambiamenti climatici, e loro aspetti metodologici ed euristici.
Capacità di applicare conoscenze e comprensione.
Al termine del corso, gli studenti saranno in grado di applicare i principali strumenti analitici e gli approcci di policy ai problemi ambientali nonché saranno in grado di adottare metodologie applicate riguardanti la valutazione economico-monetaria dei beni ambientali, di valutare la tecno-economia delle risorse naturali e quella della sostenibilità dei processi economici.
Competenze trasversali.
Al termine del corso, gli studenti saranno in grado di utilizzare evidenze empiriche primarie e secondarie per analizzare la relazione tra crescita economica e degrado ambientale. Gli studenti svilupperanno la capacità di fornire giudizi autonomi e rigorosi sul nesso tra crescita economica e sostenibilità. Gli studenti padroneggeranno metodi teorici ed euristici per rilevare la cattura delle politiche e analizzare le agende di comunicazione (gli esempi includono inquinamento, transizione energetica e cambiamento climatico globale). Verranno formate competenze comunicative su tematiche transdisciplinari.
Knowledge and Understanding.
At the end of the course, the students will have an in-depth knowledge of the theoretical concepts for analysing, from the point of view of economics, the major issues concerning the environment, the natural resources and the “sustainable development”- including the current debates on the energy and digital transitions, on climate change, and their methodological and heuristic features.
Capacity to apply Knowledge and Understanding.
At the end of the course, the students will be able to apply the main analytical tools and the policy approaches to environmental problems as well as will be able to adopt applied methodologies concerning the economic and monetary evaluation of environmental goods, to assess the techno-economics of natural resources and that of the sustainability of economic processes.
Transversal Skills.
At the end of the course, the students will be able to use primary and secondary empirical evidence to analyse the relation between economic growth and environmental degradation. Students will develop the ability to provide autonomous and rigorous judgments on the nexus between economic growth and sustainability. Students will master theoretical methods and heuristics to detect policy capture and analyse communication agendas (examples include pollution, energy transition and global climate change). Communications skills on transdisciplinary topics will be trained.

L'esame per tutti gli studenti è scritto e, a seconda delle dimensioni della classe e della logistica, può essere in parte gestito attraverso la piattaforma del corso e-learning. Per gli studenti frequentanti che svolgono attività PBL in aula (lavori individuali e di gruppo), il voto può comprendere questa parte facoltativa, come dettagliato dal docente (scala 30/30 e relativi pesi).
Per gli studenti con disabilità o Disturbi Specifici dell'Apprendimento (DSA) che si sono rivolti all'Info Point Disabilità/DSA di Ateneo per richiedere supporto per l'esame curriculare specifico, si ricorda che le modalità di svolgimento dell'esame possono essere adeguate secondo le Linee Guida di Ateneo (https ://www.univpm.it/Entra/Accoglienza_diversamente_abili).
Criteri di valutazione dell'apprendimento.
Il programma dell'esame si basa sui contenuti del libro di testo di Harris & Roach (2021) che, oltre a teorie, policy e casi aziendali, presenta anche molte domande ed esercizi (per lo più algebrici). Pertanto, l'esame scritto consisterà in domande, temi brevi ed esercizi da sviluppare nella prima parte del programma d'esame. La risposta a queste domande, temi brevi ed esercizi deve dimostrare la comprensione da parte dello studente dei concetti chiave, capacità logica e di ragionamento e la capacità di utilizzare l’economia come strumento per motivare i giudizi attraverso valutazioni valide. Ogni volta che gli studenti frequentanti svolgono le attività PBL proposte in classe, possono ottenere una seconda parte della valutazione, che si concentra sugli stessi compiti e competenze della prima parte, ma considera anche le capacità di presentazione, organizzazione e ricerca dello studente.
Criteri di misurazione dell'apprendimento.
Gli studenti verranno esaminati solo attraverso la prova scritta. Gli studenti frequentanti che svolgono anche attività PBL avranno due fonti di valutazione, la prova scritta e i lavori PBL (voto 30/30, ponderato)
Criteri di attribuzione del voto finale.
Per il superamento dell'esame il voto finale minimo dovrà essere almeno 18/30. Il voto finale è compreso tra un minimo di 18/30 e un massimo di 30/30. Per gli esami di altissima qualità verrà aggiunta la lode alla valutazione 30/30.
Learning Evaluation Methods.
The exam for all students is written and, depending on the class size and logistics, may be partly administered through the e-learning course platform. For attending students carrying out class PBL activities (individual and group works), the grade may include this optional part, as detailed by the professor (30/30 scale and relative weights).
For students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disability (SLD) who have contacted the University Disability/SLD Info Point to request support for the specific curricular exam, please note that the way the exam is taken can be adapted in accordance with the University Guidelines (https://www.univpm.it/Entra/Accoglienza_diversamente_abili).
Learning Evaluation Criteria.
The exam programme is based on the Harris & Roach (2021)’s textbook contents which, in addition to theories, policy and business cases, also presents many questions and exercises (mostly algebraic).Therefore, the written exam will consist of questions, short essays and exercises to be developed on the first part of the exam programme. The response to these questions, short essays and exercises needs to show the student’s understanding of the key concepts, logic and reasoning capacity, and the ability to use economics as a tool to motivate judgments through sound evaluations. Whenever attending students carry out the PBL activities proposed in class, they can get a second part of the evaluation, which is focused on the same tasks and skills as in the first part, but also consider the student’s presentation, organization and research skills.
Learning Measurement Criteria.
The students will be examined only through the written exam. Attending students who carry out also PBL activities will have two sources of evaluation, the written exam and the PBL works (30/30 grading basis, weighted)
Final Mark Allocation Criteria.
For the exam to be passed, the minimum final grade should be at least 18/30. The final grade ranges between the minimum of 18/30 and the maximum of 30/30. For exams of very high quality the “cum laude” will be added to the 30/30 evaluation.
Libro di testo consigliato: Harris, J. M. e Roach, B. (2021). Environmental and natural resource economics: A contemporary approach. 5a edizione, Routledge.
Verranno offerte slides powerpoint del corso e altro materiale formativo PBL (esercizi, domande aperte e brevi temi), per lo più basati sui contenuti presentati nel libro di testo di Harris & Roach (2021). Questi materiali non intendono sostituire lo studio personale e approfondito del libro di testo, ma vanno usati solo come strumenti didattici e di sintesi. Slides e materiali PBL verranno gradualmente pubblicati online sulla piattaforma e-learning del corso.
Ulteriori letture integrative (articoli accademici, documenti politici e casi) saranno elencate - e i relativi file pubblicati - sul sito e-learning del corso. Chiedere al professore indicazioni sul loro utilizzo, con largo anticipo rispetto all'esame

Course slides and other PBL training materials (exercise, open question and short essay texts), mostly based on the contents presented in the Harris & Roach (2021)’s textbook will be offered. They are not meant to be a substitute for the textbook individual and deep study, but only as teaching instruments and summaries. Slides and PBL materials will be gradually posted online at the course e-learning platform.
Further integrative readings (academic articles, policy documents and cases) will be listed - and their files posted - at the e-learning website of the course. Ask the professor for indications on their usage, well ahead of the exam
