The student has to have attended the course of History of Architecture I. The knowledge of antique and modern history of architecture is a necessary prerequisite.

The course aims to give to the future engineer-architect a basic knowledge of the artistic and architectural culture of the modern and contemporary age from late 18th to 20th Century. The course will offer introductory lectures to the main periods, the analytic examination of the changes into the cities, architecture and landscape. The biographical profiles of architects and engineers and clients will be a key part of the lectures and seminars.
If allowed by the evolution of the health pandemic, study trips in Italy and abroad and visits to cities and architecture in the Marche will complete the training course. The course is organised into 70 hours of lectures and 20 hours of workshop.
The thematic workshop consists in a selection of case studies chosen from Europe and America that will be carried by the students in research groups. The results will be organised in plates and written reports.

The Course and Laboratory refine and complement historical and critical knowledge and aim to move the student to a more mature understanding of architectural work through the study of the 19th and 20th centuries. The rapid evolution of technology and the building technologies experienced after the Industrial Revolution and the new capacity of circulation of experiences in different continents stimulates the student to develop new skills and a more refined vocabulary which facilitates the connection with the design disciplines, from the restoration and enhancement of the cultural heritage to the urban and architectural regeneration. The Laboratory coordinated with the scientific courses (Construction Techniques) and the project (Architectural design and Urban planning), monographic lectures on specific themes or prominent designers will be alternated with moments of collective reflection on proposed readings or themes, encouraging discussion between lecturer and student.

The course is organised into four modules of lessons and in a laboratory on topics agreed with the students.

MODULE FOUR_Languages and themes of the Contemporary


WORKSHOP
The workshop of 20 hours will integrate the study of the course program through the analysis of a selection of works chosen with the students.
The workshop consists in the elaboration of a complete research on the chosen work, from the basic bibliography to the analysis of the artefact and its context, the results of which will be organised in plates and in a written text.

The Laboratory proposes integration with the "Laboratory of Architecture and Architectural Composition 2" and the "Urban Planning Laboratory".
