ORGANIZZAZIONE GENERALE DEL SISTEMA NERVOSO. Neuroni e glia. Flusso ematico cerebrale, liquido cefalorachidiano e metabolismo cerebrale. Organizzazione funzionale della corteccia cerebrale.
SISTEMI SENSORIALI: Proprietà generali dei recettori e delle fibre nervose periferiche. Organizzazione generale dei circuiti neuronali sensoriali.
Organizzazione funzionale periferica e centrale del sistema somestetico
Dolore rapido e dolore lento. Nocicettori. Vie spinali di trasmissione delle informazioni nocicettive. Sistema antinocicettivo. Dolore riferito. Dolore viscerale. Aspetti emotivi e cognitivi della sensazione dolorifica.
Organizzazione funzionale periferica e centrale del sistema visivo. Movimenti oculari.

APPRENDIMENTO E MEMORIA: Classificazioni della memoria. Strutture nervose coinvolte nell’apprendimento e nella memoria.
FISIOLOGIA DELLE EMOZIONI: Definizione delle emozioni. Cambiamenti fisiologici associati alle emozioni. Integrazione del comportamento emotivo. Ruolo dell’amigdala.
LINGUAGGIO: Produzione del linguaggio. Organizzazione nervosa del linguaggio. Linguaggio e lateralizzazione. Sviluppo del linguaggio.
SISTEMA NERVOSO AUTONOMO: Organizzazione morfofunzionale del sistema simpatico e parasimpatico. Neurotrasmettitori del sistema nervoso autonomo. Controllo della ghiandola surrenale
SISTEMA ENDOCRINO. Relazioni tra il sistema endocrino e il sistema nervoso. Sintesi, rilascio, metabolismo e trasporto degli ormoni. Meccanismi d'azione degli ormoni. Ormoni ipofisari e il loro controllo da parte dell'ipotalamo. Ormoni tiroidei. Ormoni delle ghiandole surrenali. Pancreas endocrino. Ormone paratiroideo. Aspetti generali degli ormoni sessuali.
SISTEMA CARDIOVASCOLARE: attività elettrica del cuore, ECG, attività meccanica del cuore, gittata cardiaca, emodinamica, proprietà fisiche del sistema arterioso, pressione arteriosa, regolazione pressione arteriosa, sistema venoso, microcircolazione, sistema linfatico. Circolazioni distrettuali.
SISTEMA RESPIRATORIO: Struttura anatomica e istologica del tratto respiratorio. Meccanismi della ventilazione polmonare e alveolare. Scambi tra alveoli e capillari. Circolazione polmonare. Relazione tra ventilazione e perfusione. Trasporto dei gas nel sangue. Ruolo del polmone nell'omeostasi acido-base. Regolazione del ritmo respiratorio e dei chemocettori.
SISTEMA URINARIO: Distribuzione e composizione dei fluidi corporei. Filtrazione glomerulare. Secrezione, riassorbimento, escrezione e clearance renale. Meccanismi di concentrazione dell'urina e regolazione del volume di sangue. Ruolo del rene nel controllo a lungo termine della pressione arteriosa. Sistema renina-angiotensina-aldosterone. Ruolo del rene nell'omeostasi acido-base.
SISTEMA GASTROINTESTINALE: Masticazione e deglutizione. Funzioni motorie dello stomaco, dell'intestino tenue e del colon. Peristalsi e la sua neurobiologia. Riflessi gastrointestinali, defecazione e vomito. Meccanismi di secrezione salivare, esofagea, gastrica, pancreatica, biliare e regolazione neuroormonale. La ricircolazione enteroepatica. Digestione e assorbimento di carboidrati, proteine e grassi. Principi fondamentali dell'assorbimento gastrointestinale.

Control of posture and balance. Locomotion control. Role of the cerebellum and basal ganglia in motor control. Cortical control of movement.
SLEEP: Sleep stages and NREM-REM cycle. Nervous centers controlling sleep and wakefulness. Regulation and functions of sleep.
LEARNING AND MEMORY: Classifications of memory. Neural structures involved in learning and memory.
PHYSIOLOGY OF EMOTIONS: Definition of emotions. Physiological changes associated with emotions. Integration of emotional behavior. Role of the amygdala.
LANGUAGE: Language production. Neural organization of language. Language and lateralization. Language development.
AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM: Morphofunctional organization of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Neurotransmitters of the autonomic nervous system. Control of the adrenal gland.
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM. Relations between the endocrine system and the nervous system. Synthesis, release, metabolism and transport of hormones. Mechanisms of hormone action. Pituitary hormones and their control by hypothalamus. Thyroid hormones. Adrenal gland hormones. Endocrine pancreas. Parathyroid hormone. General aspects of sexual hormones.
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM: electric activity of the heart, ECG, the heart pump, cardiac output, physical properties of the artery system, blood pressure, regulation of blood pressure, venous system, microcirculation, lymphatic system. Coronaric, splanchnic and encephalic circulation.
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: Anatomical and histological structure of the respiratory tract. Mechanisms of pulmonary and alveolar ventilation. Alveolus-capillary exchanges. Lung circulation. Ventilation and perfusion relation. Transport of gas in the blood. Role of lung in the acid-base homeostasis. Regulation of respiratory rhythm and chemoreceptors.
URINARY SYSTEM: Distribution and composition of body fluids. Glomerular filtration. Secretion, reabsorption, excretion and renal clearance. Urine concentration mechanisms and blood volume regulation.
Role of kidney in long-term control of arterial pressure. Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone system. Role of kidney in the acid-base homeostasis
GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM: Chewing and swallowing. Motor functions of the stomach, small intestine, and colon. Peristalsis and its neurobiology. Gastrointestinal reflexes, defecation, and vomiting. Mechanisms of salivary, esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, biliary secretion, and neurohormonal regulation. The enterohepatic recirculation. Digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Fundamental principles of gastrointestinal absorption.
