Il corso si svolgerà attraverso una molteplicità di azioni, principalmente lezioni frontali ed esercitazioni e una serie di attività parallele ed organiche ai temi scelti per l’anno accademico che consteranno in conferenze, viaggi di studio, lezioni di ospiti e visite in cantiere. Il corso è integrato da un laboratorio all’interno del quale le questioni teoriche affrontate nel corso vengono applicate ad un progetto elaborato anche in sinergia con le altre discipline del progetto. Il corso prevede la seguente ripartizione delle ore: Lezioni - 50 ore; Esercizi - 40 ore.
The course will be characterized by a multitude of actions, mainly frontal lessons and exercises, and a series of parallel and organic activities on selected topics for the academic year that will be held in conferences, study trips, guest lectures and site visits. The course is complemented by a laboratory where the theoretical questions addressed in the course are applied to a project developed in synergy with the other disciplines of the project. The course is conceived with the following time schedule: Lectures - 50 hours; Exercises - 40 hours.

Il primo ragionamento che il corso propone è la cogente necessità di sostenibilità tout court, che in termini spaziali, sia urbani che architettonici, significa non tanto costruire di meno, quanto ricostruire, riutilizzando ciò che esiste, dal tessuto urbano all’enorme quantità di volumetria realizzata nel tempo che, in alcuni casi versa in condizioni di degrado, e in altri è in attesa di rifunzionalizzazione. Il secondo ordine di interesse sarà relativo alle modalità con cui affrontare oggi la relazione tra il nuovo e il patrimonio. Superato il corretto rispetto per la storia, per il ruolo e i significati delle architetture del passato, il nostro esistente è ora soprattutto orientato verso la grande mole di architettura che ha prodotto il Novecento, il cui carattere, pur non privo di temi e di senso, può e deve stimolare nuovi percorsi ed approcci da individuare e sperimentare. Altre possibilità di riflessione sono rintracciabili all'interno del ruolo delle sempre più centrali questioni tecniche, sia costruttive che relative alle questioni energetiche, moltiplicate rispetto al passato, e che potrebbero veicolare nuove modalità di interpretazione della relazione fisica tra nuovo e preesistenza. Anche la recente crisi economica, al di là degli interventi finanziati da grandi capitali, pubblici e privati, suggerisce un nuovo modo di intervenire, e le economie di scala, che fino a poco tempo fa suggerivano demolizione e ricostruzione rispetto alla rigenerazione, vengono riviste oggi con nuovi parametri, stimolando operazioni di recupero e ampliamento; tutte tematiche queste, sulle quali il corso si propone sperimentazioni di ricomposizione. Agli aspetti teorici si affiancheranno delle esercitazioni in collaborazione con il laboratorio. Esse riguarderanno il rapporto tra teoria e progetto, la lettura e l'interpretazione dei luoghi insieme alle necessità funzionali di un edificio per la definizione di un'idea progettuale, lo sviluppo della configurazione architettonica e il suo controllo attraverso gli strumenti della rappresentazione, la comunicazione del progetto attraverso differenti modalità di espressione.
The first reasoning that the course proposes is the cogent necessity of sustainability tout court, which in spatial terms, both urban and architectural, means not so much to build less, but to rebuild, reusing what exists, from the urban fabric to the enormous quantity of volume realized over time that, in some cases, is in a state of degradation, and in others it is awaiting redeployment. The second order of interest will be related to the ways in which to face today the relationship between the new and the heritage. The correct respect for the history, for the role and meanings of the architecture of the past, our existing one is now above all oriented towards the great amount of architecture that produced the second half of the twentieth century, whose character, although not without themes and meaning, can and must stimulate new paths and approaches to be identified and experimented. Other possibilities of reflection are to be found within the role of increasingly central technical issues, both constructive and relating to energy issues, multiplied with respect to the past, and which could convey new ways of interpreting the physical relationship between new and seniority. Even the recent economic crisis, beyond the interventions financed by large capitals, public and private, suggests a new way of intervening, and the economies of scale, which until recently suggested demolition and reconstruction with respect to regeneration, are reviewed today with new parameters, stimulating recovery and expansion operations; all these themes, on which the course proposes recomposition experiments. The theoretical aspects will be accompanied by exercises in collaboration with the laboratory. They will concern the relationship between theory and design, the reading and interpretation of places together with the functional needs of a building for the definition of a design idea, the development of the architectural configuration and its control through the tools of representation, the communication of the project through different ways of expression.
