Basic knowledge on mechanics, geometry and calculus
Lezioni di teoria: 57 ore
Esercitazioni con strumenti CAE: 15 ore
Lectures: 57 hours
Exercises with CAE tools: 15 hours
Students will be able to understand the principles underlying the operation of machines and production systems, also aiming at their management and maintenance. The tools and methodologies for modeling and simulation of machines and mechanical systems. will be introduced too
Carrying out simple exercises in the classroom and the assignment of a team work will allow students to improve their capacity to apply the acquired skills to the modeling and the study of simple machines and mechanical systems
The team work will develop students’ ability to work in group for the modeling and the development of engineering activities and to report on them. Communication skills will be tested during the final exam.

The oral exam consists in the discussion of one or more topics explained during the lessons; optionally, the students, divided into groups, will be able to report orally on a case study related to the dynamic analysis of an automated production system, addressed through the use of the simulation tool introduced in class.
During the term the students can undertake a partial examination which, if passed, allows the students not to discuss the related topics during the colloquium. In case of negative or unsatisfactory result the test can be recovered before the end of the course.
In order to pass the exam, the student must demonstrate that he/she has understood the fundamental concepts of the lectures and in particular that he/she has acquired the basic skills on kinematics, statics and dynamics of machines and on the most important mechanisms (pairs, gearings, brakes and hoists).
The final mark evaluates the knowledge gained on all course’s subjects, including statics of structures and the optional group work.
The maximum rating is given to students who demonstrate a thorough understanding of the content of the teaching, good attitude for team working and good oral skills
A thirty-points scale is used for grading, eventually with praise.
To gain a positive evaluation, the student must achieve at least 18 points (out of 30) in the colloquium. If the interim test has been passed and/or the group activity has been developed, the overall rating is obtained by the weighted average of the marks obtained in the other tests; the colloquium is weighted twice as much the other tests, if undertaken
