Conoscenze di base di algebra lineare, analisi matematica, fisica.
Basic knowledge of linear algebra, calculus, physics.
Lezioni teoriche frontali ed esercitazioni pratiche.
Theoretical lectures and practical activities.
The course aims to provide advanced notions for the mathematical modeling of biomechanical systems in static and dynamic tasks, from a mechanical point of view and through data driven models as well. Further, the course will deal also with linear and nonlinear techniques for the treatment and processing of signals acquired by specific devices used in the field of human movement analysis, with particular attention devoted to inertial applications.
At the end of the course, the student should be able to apply methodologies and techniques for modeling the most common motor tasks within the biomechanical field, e.g. static and dynamic posture and gait, used for extracting information about specific aspects related to the dynamics and motor control in both healthy individuals and in patients with diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system. Through practical and theoretical lessons, the student will be able to properly arrange a measurement setup with respect to the specific devices used for movement analysis and further to elaborate and correctly interpret signals related to the human movement during specific motor tasks, by means of advanced processing techniques required for treating and extracting information from inertial data.
Additional goals of the course are to provide the ability of analyzing in a critical and mindful way the biomechanical modeling problem, allowing a proper choice of the most suitable measurement and analysis techniques to be applied for handling a particular problem of interest. Further, the student should be able to evaluate and adopt the most appropriate signal processing procedures with respect also to the specific kind of measurement devices and to the information needed to be obtained. Eventually, the course will provide knowledge about the correct definition of an experimental measurement protocol and about the critical review of the existing literature.
Dynamics of rigid bodies, lagrangian approach, kinematics and dynamics modelling, techniques for the analysis of biomechanical signals, inertial sensing for movement analysis.
Written test and oral test. Both of them include questions about the theoretical and practical topics discussed during the lectures and the practical activities.
To successfully pass the exam, it is required to prove that the theoretical topics treated during the course have been well understood and to show the capability to apply the acquired knowledge also within practical contexts.
The final grade is on a scale from 0 to 30, with at least 18/30 needed for passing the final exam.
The written and oral tests together form the final grade of the course, computed as the average of the two grades. A grade of at least 18/30 in both written and oral tests is needed for passing the final exam. Honors is attributed if a grade of 30/30 is achieved, showing also the full knowledge of the course topics.
