Knowledge of the basic topics of analysis (limit, derivative, integral, resolution of ordinary differential equations, etc.), of linear algebra (matrixes, Rouche-Capelli theorem, eigenvalues problem, etc.) and physics (force, work, etc.).

L’insegnamento intende fornire agli studenti i
strutture storiche.
Queste saranno effettuate in gruppi
sicurezza strutturale.
The course provides to students fundamentals of
structural analysis required for an accurate
assessment of the static and dynamic vulnerability of
historical buildings. The course will allow
understanding the limitations of the most common
assessment methods and at the same time will route
the student to the use of more sophisticated and
appropriated numerical methods for the study of
historical and monumental structures. The course will
apply to the historical heritage the notions learned in
the courses of Structural Mechanics and Structural
Engineering, regarding the concepts of the theory of
plasticity, limit analysis, fracture mechanics, and
structural dynamics.
To address the problems related to structural
assessment regarding the verification of historicalmonumental
structures, the student should be able to
assess the risks of a deformation and/or cracking
state and all the pathologies identifiable in these
historical structures. It should be able to understand
and set up the data with methodological accuracy,
relating to both the static and dynamic fields, of the
main structural deficiencies so that it can develop a
numerical model which can reconstruct the response
of the building.
Through practical exercises, the student will apply
the knowledge acquired during the course directly to
case studies. These will be done in groups and will
allow the student to apply lessons learned from more
sophisticated numerical models. This will help the
student to develop the ability of independent
judgment, to increase its aptitude to communicate
and work in teams, and their skill to draw conclusions
about structural safety.
