MODALITÀ DI SVOLGIMENTO DEL CORSO DEVELOPMENT OF THE COURSE

The course will be conducted through both theoretical and practical lessons.
Practical exercises: Individual and group work on case study, DIE (Description, interpretation and evaluation), drills from the textbook.

RISULTATI DI APPRENDIMENTO ATTESI LEARNING OUTCOMES
Knowledge and Understanding.

At the end of the course students will be able to understand the main issues and dimensions of cultural anthropology, sociology and social psychology, covering the following themes: culture and cultures, colonialism and post-colonialism, globalization, relationship between communication and relations.


Capacity to apply Knowledge and Understanding.

At the end of the course, students will have improved their ability to use a scientific evidence-based approach through the acquisition of tools in analyzing (comparison, criticism), synthesizing (prioritization), planning (strategies and tactics), expressing themselves (lexicon, argumentation).


Transversal Skills.

Intercultural Sensitivity, Building Commitment, Intercultural Communication, Managing Uncertainty.

Culture, subculture, multi-culture, inter-culture, trans-culture. Languages (dominant languages, vehicle languages, bilingualism, multilingualism, jargons). Status, role, and norms. Ethnicity, religions, traditions, community lifestyles; contaminations and cultural transformations (role of national states, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, migration, trade, multinational corporations, mass media, IT technology, tourism).
Stereotypes and prejudices. Relationship between communication and relations. Listening. Empathy. Ecological communication.
Four core competences for intercultural communication.

MODALITÀ DI SVOLGIMENTO DELL'ESAME DEVELOPMENT OF THE EXAMINATION
Learning Evaluation Methods.

The exam consists of an interview.
ln the event that for an exam session particular needs will arise and providing the exam in written form would be
more appropriate, students will be promptly informed in advance.


Learning Evaluation Criteria.

During the exam, students will have to show that they have a solid knowledge of the main issues and dimensions faced in the course. They will also have to demonstrate that they have understood how to use appropriately analysis, synthesis, planning, and expression.


Learning Measurement Criteria.

The vote will be expressed in marks out of thirty. The student will pass the exam if he or she gets at least 18. It is expected that the highest grade will be awarded with honors (30 with honors).


Final Mark Allocation Criteria.

Students will answer 5 oral questions and each question will be rated no more than 6. One of the 5 questions will cover an individual presentation (starting from a tackled topic). Students who demonstrate a high-level analytical judgment, in-depth and thorough understanding the theoretical and practical contents of the course will get 30 with honors.
