RISULTATI DI APPRENDIMENTO ATTESI LEARNING OUTCOMES
Conoscenze e comprensione.

Knowledge and Understanding.

The course enables students to acquire advanced knowledge related to the distribution and functional aspects of one or more buildings of collective character. This topic is coordinated with the area of representation and of the survey, of architectural design and restoration area, urban area, area of building production and building technologies. The goal is to give the students a full multidisciplinary awareness related to the urban scale and the architectural one.

Capacity to apply Knowledge and Understanding.

In order to deal with the design process, the student must be able to critically interpret the intervention context. This ability will be carried on through design exercises, aimed at studying the types of public and private buildings in which the interdependences between the building and the city are clear. To apply the concepts the starting point consists in the interpretation of the environment, intended as a guideline for the design development, both in the case you have to intervene on a free area or to reconfigure an existing building. This ability will be carried on through design exercises, aimed at studying the types of public and private buildings in which the interdependences between the building and the city are clear, as well as the ones connected to the landscape and urban green.

Transversal Skills.

Transversal skills will be verified by the resolution of an architectural problem that will be faced by groups of students. It will be communicated through drawings and posters that will allow the student to improve his own autonomy of judgment, his ability to communicate originating from the team-working, as well as his ability to learn and get the proper conclusions.

PROGRAMMA PROGRAM

The course deepens aspects related to the architectural and urban design project. With a cross-cutting approach, through different scales and multidisciplinary aspects of design, the course starts from the urban and territorial analysis of a context to arrive at the definition of an architectural design including the building’s technical details. Approaching progressively the building’s detailed scale, the class provides the skills and tools to support the development of the design exercise, with particular attention to: relationship between architecture and the city, study of the urban context and landscape, activities program of the building within a broader urban strategy, aspects related to the structural system, to the functionality and spatiality of the project, study of the facade, the openings, the transparency / opacity of the building skin, the environmental performance and sustainability, as well as the relationship that the new structure is able to establish with the surrounding environment, especially in the case of collective public buildings. Particular attention is also dedicated to the theme of urban and architectural recycling, with the idea that the recovery and re-functionalization of existing structures, especially in earthquake territories such as Le Marche Region, are today the crucial issues that future designers will have to deal with.

MODALITÀ DI SVOLGIMENTO DELL'ESAME DEVELOPMENT OF THE EXAMINATION

- una serie di esercitazioni relative alle tematiche affrontate nel corso con l’elaborazione e la presentazione di un progetto, concordato con il docente, su un tema e un contesto specifici. Il progetto sarà presentato sotto forma di elaborati grafici, plastici e power point;

Learning Evaluation Methods.

The assessment of students' learning level is based on two tests:
- a series of exercises on specific topics related to the teaching program, with the elaboration and presentation of a design project on a specific topic and context, as agreed with the professor. The design project will be presented with drawings set out on graphic panels, with architectural models and with a power point;
- the synthesis of the project in a report, which includes a brief descriptive text and relevant images.
Work in groups of two is possible, provided that the actual contribution of each member to the realization of the assigned tasks can be distinguished, which will also be used as a basis for the evaluation.

Learning Evaluation Criteria.

In order to obtain a positive assessment of learning , the student should demonstrate the capacity to understand and manage the design complexity, also in relation to its theoretical implications. He/she should also demonstrate his/her ability to deepen specific aspects and details, knowing how to frame them within a general coherence of the project. He/she should also show a certain autonomy in analysis, in theoretical study, and in project development, and the ability to learn and apply innovative methodologies and tools. Finally, he/she should demonstrate that he/she is able to effectively translate the project idea into a solid and convincing architectural project, also through a clear graphic presentation and a coherent oral and written description of the design’s logic and process.

Learning Measurement Criteria.

The learning level is measured based on the average of the two tests: exercises with related elaboration and presentation of the design project, report. For each test, the student will score a mark on a scale of 30, 18/30 being the minimum to pass the test. The final mark will be the average of the two tests.

Final Mark Allocation Criteria.

The final mark, on a scale of 30, and possibly cum laude, is the average of the two tests.
To pass the exam, the student has to have at least a positive mark (18/30) on each of the two tests.
The highest mark is achieved by the student who demonstrates a deep understanding of the theoretical and practical contents of the course. Cum laude will be assigned to the student who, having successfully and correctly completed all the tests, particularly stood out in the elaboration and presentation of the design project.
