There will be lectures (6 credits, 48 hours), classroom exercises (1 credit, 8 hours). Course attendance, although not mandatory, is recommended.
The course aims to introduce students to some theoretical, methodological and applicative elements of differential and integral calculus for real functions of one real variable. It aims to provide students with the elements necessary for the understanding of analytical models in use for describing the scientific phenomena and the correct interpretation of models involved in environmental sciences.
The course aims to develop the ability to perform studies of functions, derivation, integration and solve simple differential equations.
Classroom and individual resolution of many problems and exercises will improve learning ability and independence of judgment. The study of deductive logical topics and the correct use of logical mathematical language develops communication skills.

- una prova scritta, consistente nella risoluzione di esercizi riguardanti tutti gli argomenti trattati nel corso; gli studenti non possono consultare un testo ne un foglio formulario e nessun dispositivo elettronico è ammesso, nè calcolatrice;
- una prova orale, consistente in quesiti teorici e esercizi su argomenti del corso non coperti dalla prova scritta o sui quali lo studente nella prova scritta abbia evidenziato lacune o debolezze;
- domande di comprensione generale possono essere inserite sia nella prova scritta che nella prova orale;
- il superamento della prova scritta, con il punteggio minimo di 15/30, è condizione necessaria per l'ammissione alla seconda prova;
The level of learning of the students is evaluated by two tests:
- a written test concernig the resolution of exercises covering all the topics discussed in the course; students cannot consult a text or a form sheet and no electronic device is allowed, nor a calculator;
- an oral test consisting of theoretical questions and exercises on subjects of the course not covered by the written test or on which the student in the written test has revealed gaps or weaknesses;
- questions of general comprehension may be asked both in the written and in the oral test;
- a minimum score of at least 15/30 in the written test is required for the admission to the oral test;
- in case of passing the written test, the student may sit for the oral test either in the same session or the next available session.
In order to pass the exam, the student must demonstrate a good understanding of all the topics and concepts outlined during the course and learning about how to apply them in solving typical calculus problems.
The allocation of the final score takes into account the knowledge gained on all subjects of the teaching, the ability to apply and articulate them, and to fine-tune the resolution of exercises.
The maximum rating is given to students who demonstrate excellent analytical skills in the written test and that in the oral test demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the content of the teaching, methodological rigor and specific vocabulary appropriateness.
Assignement of a numerical score in the range 0-30, with possible honor.
For the overall score of the assessment to be positive, the student must achieve at least 18 points (over 30) both in the written and oral tests,and at least 18 (over 30 )in the overall evaluation. The foverall srating is given by the weighted average of the scores in the two tests. The weight assigned to the oral test is twice that of the written one.
