MODALITÀ DI SVOLGIMENTO DEL CORSO DEVELOPMENT OF THE COURSE

The course is addressed to analyse relevant issues in the field of banking and finance. It is
organised into five main Sections relating to the global banking industry. Theoretical and practical
instruments are provided to understand the banking business. The Italian-European case-study
is analysed but a peculiar attention is addressed towards cross-country comparisons, mainly
between US-UK financial systems compared to the remaining European countries.

RISULTATI DI APPRENDIMENTO ATTESI LEARNING OUTCOMES
Knowledge and Understanding.

At the end of the lessons, students should be able to understand on going drivers of change
due to European Banking Union and Unified Supervision Mechanism, coupling with
development of Italian and European banking systems.


Capacity to apply Knowledge and Understanding.

At the end of the lessons, students should be able to cope with the overall reshaping of the European
financial landscape; a special attention is addressed to the ability to compare different business models.


Transversal Skills.

Cultural flexibility and critical attitude is a specifically educational goal, in order to stimulate
development of professional profiles adapt to deal with the re-designed Italian and European
marketplace.

PROGRAMMA PROGRAM

Section 1: Economic motivation for the existence of the bank as a financial
intermediaries; Banking equilibrium; Banking services and the recent trends impacting on
the banking business.
Section 2: Authorities in banking regulation and supervision: the European Banking
Union. Central banking and bank regulation/supervision. Basle agreements along time
and prudential ratios.
Section 3: Commercial and investment banking business. Private and retail banking.
Financial Markets as an alternative pattern of financial support to enterprises, compared
to banks.
Section 4: Bank management: insight into risk management techniques used by banks.
Section 5: Recent changes in developed and developing countries' banking and financial
systems, types of banking systems and how global trends impact on different types of
banking markets.

MODALITÀ DI SVOLGIMENTO DELL'ESAME DEVELOPMENT OF THE EXAMINATION
Learning Evaluation Methods.

The final exam is based on a written test, divided in 3 parts,
Part 1: multiple choice questions (maximum 7 questions)
Part 2: questions with short answers (maximum 4 questions)
Part 3: numerical problems.
For students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) who have contacted the University Disability/SLD Info Point to request support for the specific curricular exam, please note that the way the exam is taken can be adapted in accordance with the University Guidelines (https://www.univpm.it/Entra/Accoglienza_diversamente_abili).


Learning Evaluation Criteria.

A complete and comprehensive understanding of the five Sections of the program is required


Learning Measurement Criteria.

Positive grades: from 18 to 30.


Final Mark Allocation Criteria.

a. Positive grades: from 18 to 30. Cum laude can be bestowed to outstanding
performance.
b. Supplementary points can be assigned if presenting the teamwork project, the points
are awarded only if the minimum requested grade (18) is obtained at the written exam.
